Amazing Grace (PB)

Author(s): Caroline (ILT) Mary; Binch Hoffman

Picture Books | Year 2 Honourable Mentions

Grace loves to act out stories. Sometimes she plays the leading part, sometimes she is 'a cast of thousands.' When her school decides to perform Peter Pan, Grace is longing to play Peter, but her classmates say that Peter was a boy, and besides, he wasn't black...But Grace's Ma and Nana tell her she can be anything she wants if she puts her mind to it. Mary Hoffman's book "Song of the Earth" (Orion) was shortlisted for the Kurt Maschler Award and the Primary English Award 1995. In 1992 "Amazing Grace", her first Frances Lincoln book, was selected for Child Education's Best Books of 1991 and Children's Books of the Year 1992, commended for the Kate Greenaway Medal, and included on the National Curriculum Reading List 1996/1997. Its sequel, "Grace & Family" was among Junior Education's Best Books of 1995 and shortlisted for the Sheffield Libraries Book Award 1996. Her Grace story-books include "Starring Grace", "Encore Grace!" and "Bravo, Grace!" Her latest books are the teenage Stravaganza trilogy. Caroline Binch's illustrations for Hue Boy, written by Rita Phillips Mitchell, won the Smarties Prize. She is perhaps best known for "Amazing Grace" and "Grace & Family".
